"The Vespa is truly an institution in the canyon".

Roelf Vorster.

It rarely rains in the desert so after nearly 50 years one Vespa left behind by our 1968 Expedition is still fairly well preserved. It has become a well known and photographed landmark for trekkers from around the globe and has become a small part of the Fish River Canyon story.

Prophetically Vidi (I saw) has survived all these years to see large numbers of trekkers walk on by.

In this album every effort has been made to contact all the photographers to gain permission to use their images.

Thank you to all those who without hesitation gave their permission. And also to those few who we’ve been unable to contact. Thank you in anticipation.

The shale section of  the descent  into the Fish River Canyon is steep and the slope littered with loose rock.
